Corporate Partners
Dear Professional:
The Bush Administration’s educational plan for America’s youth was “No Child Left Behind”. Although we have our different opinions about the success or failure of that plan; it is true as a country we can’t afford to leave any child behind. In Metropolitan Atlanta, 83.5 percent of the population graduates from high school, but only 31.4 percent has obtained a bachelors degree or beyond. What does this gap in educational achievement mean to our community and future workforce? It means, in a time where job creation and development is taking place in our economy, especially the green jobs that are being created by President Obama’s stimulus plan that require a bachelor’s degree or beyond, not everyone will be able to take advantage of these opportunities. Unless the community gets involved in doing something to improve this educational achievement gap, we won’t have a future workforce to fill the jobs that are being created and developed. The gap in educational achievement also shows that the $14 million spent on educational annually isn’t enough; the community must provide additional resources to local schools to enhance the educational experiences for our youth.
SEM Link was founded on the premise that exposure to members of the science, engineering and mathematics (SEM) communities is critical to student achievement. Our mission is to promote student achievement and career exploration in math and science while enhancing resources at local schools and community organizations. Since 2005, we have enhanced the math and science educational experiences for over 1000 Metro Atlanta youth. No organization can achieve its mission without partnerships; we are living in an interdependent world with limited resources. Partnerships allow us to share resources so that we all can accomplish our organizational goals. Every organization has something to bring to the table which will not only enhance their own goals but also that of another organization. All corporations, government agencies, small businesses, professional societies, colleges, and universities, large or small must all show social responsibility and give back to the community in a way that aligns with your or its values and goals but one must take into account the possible resources. You can do so by supporting the mission of SEM Link by becoming one of our corporate partners.
As a corporate partner, your organization and SEM Link will work together to promote student achievement and career exploration in math and science. Your organization can serve as a corporate partner by contributing whatever resources you have large or small so that you can help close the educational achievement gap as well as contribute to the creation of future science, engineering and mathematics workforce by “unveiling potential through exposure”. As a corporate partner, you have the flexibility to choose how you will provide the resources that SEM Link needs to achieve its mission. Individuals from your organization can volunteer for our programs, administrative tasks or you can provide financial support for one of our events, general program or provide operational support.
